Show Time

9/30/2015

As some of you know, I am one of the designers participating in
Historic Old New Castle Showhouse that opened on  September 25th.

It has been a very busy and exciting two months, planning, sourcing and installing my room.

BEFORE

First things first  -
measurements and scale drawings

Assisted by my favorite 6 year old who decided we needed to tape the drawings together and make a house,  the design process began.

With an intuitive understand that "form follows function" we installed a bed, and a lady and created a furniture plan.

Floor plan settled, it was time for some style inspiration.  I selected this handsome fabric from Waverly featuring Pantone's 2015 color of the year, Marsala.

I've learned that it is much easier to match paint to fabric than the other way around.  Benjamin Moore very generously donated all the paint for the showhouse and what a difference a coat of paint makes.

The ceiling are 12 feet high and HC 61 at 50% really helped create an enveloping feel.

Time to source the furniture and accessories.

What is a bedroom without a beautiful bed?  Yves Delorme Wilmington,  generously agreed to contribute their new design Swan, to the effort.  It is so very lovely.

Installation

Exciting, exhausting and impossible without a lot of help.

Special thanks to Lynda who is a dynamo with an unerring eye.

And Mike, who helped install our light fixture using a remote control when we discovered there were no wall switches.

Page, cabinet maker extraordinaire, who fabricated a very tricky radiator cover.

And the big reveal

Your bedroom should be your refuge. Surround yourself with objects that speak to you.  I love the work of local artists, Barbara Neville and Jacalyn Beam.

It's been a great experience and I hope you have a chance to go see the wonderful spaces created by a houseful of very talented folks.

Best,

Hooray, Karen!
I'm glad to see the progress you've made on your section of the "show house", and on this new site. Now if you could add some of your "Best Of" newsletter commentary to this blog section, that would be even better...

I hope I get to see you in the _Found_ store soon -- take care, and continued *good luck*!

Thanks for the support. I'm still figuring out how to transfer post from the old blog.

Thanks Laurie,

It's been a lot of fun pulling it together. I hope you have a chance to go over and visit.

What a beautiful transformation. If the past owners had made the room that comfortable and welcoming, they probably would not have ever sold their home!
